The purpose of this blog...

I've developed this blog to provide an area for people to discuss items related to the world of art and the teaching of art. Just like everything else in the world, art is going through many changes. One of the biggest things that is changing is the adaptation of technology to create art. Many artists are using technology. I will discuss items related to this or other items I may find important. I will also share technology tools that I find useful to other areas as well.

Reflection 6/18/08 iMovie and Jing

Today in Emerging Tech....

We learned the how to use Podbean to upload podcast's to the web. I didn't get a chance to work with it today, but as a digital native....I won't have time doing so when I need the source.

We also learned how to use Jing. Jing is a pretty cool thing! It records your screen while you work and lets you record audio while doing so. This can be used to show students directions on how to work on the computer. I'm looking forward to using this program to show the steps in Photoshop and InDesign for my students this next fall. This will allow my students to work at their own pace.

We also learned how to use iMovie. I had seen it used many time at Ed-Co. There are many teachers that do video projects. Now I can actually help the students out that do need assistance. I do think that it's unfair for teachers to assign projects using materials that don't know how to use. I understand that it's good for students to help teachers keep up-to-date with technology. However, many students work on PC's at home and therefore don't have access or haven't used iMovie. It's frustrating as a teacher that knows how to use technology....because all the students come to you and it get rather overwhelming at times. What needs to be done is a workshop at the school to show all the teachers how to use the program (at least the basics).

Yes, it is good to have a basic knowledge in using software but the teacher doesn't need to be a master before using it. Let the kids teach you.
