The purpose of this blog...

I've developed this blog to provide an area for people to discuss items related to the world of art and the teaching of art. Just like everything else in the world, art is going through many changes. One of the biggest things that is changing is the adaptation of technology to create art. Many artists are using technology. I will discuss items related to this or other items I may find important. I will also share technology tools that I find useful to other areas as well.

Authentic Writing Presentation

Today, one group in class presented material on how to train teachers to use technology to produce and encourage Authentic Writing in the classroom.
Voicethread:
I would use Voicethread to have students write a story about their piece of artwork. The Junior High students would really enjoy this. Last year I had the students make a 3-D monster (after watching Monsters Inc.). After they had their monster done they had to as a group write stories about their monsters. I think this would have been a cool tool to use to show the piece of artwork and then them being able to tell their story on there. I think they would have put more effort into their story if they knew everyone can see it. I would use this tool also to have the high school students work on commenting on art using authentic writing.
Here's an example of a college artist placing her artwork on Voicethread:

21 Classes:
I don't know if I would ever use this program. I know that the Language Arts dept. at my school are using either this source or something similar to this. I would rather use a ning for the students to post their artwork on and then for them to reflect and leave coments about. It would be easier for the students to find their classmates since they can be in a group by classes.
